Layer Properly

Base layer wicks moisture. Insulation retains heat. Shell blocks wind and splash. Avoid cotton in cold conditions.

Wetsuit or Drysuit

Water temperature dictates choice. Wetsuits work in moderate cold. Drysuits for serious cold water. Invest in proper protection.

Extremities Matter

Neoprene gloves protect hands. Booties keep feet functional. Hood or beanie retains heat. Exposed skin loses heat rapidly.

Safety Considerations

Cold water shock dangerous. Stay close to shore. Paddle with others. Know hypothermia signs.
